Oh yes! We’ve had our tickets for months and finally the date came when the GZA -- Genius arrived in Glasgow. I’ve taken a couple of video clips to show you the vibe of the show.
Like 99% of all hip-hop gigs in Glasgow you’ll find a hardcore of neds, the really high pitched whinny ones ‘nat no, like?’. But as Mr McDonald foretold ‘Nah man, they’ll head to the front’ and sure enough they did.
So. Lets talk about the warm up acts! We missed Big Taj but I’ve seen him before, big, BIG dude that does beat boxing. Very good and entertaining. Next we move on to Hector Bizerk…I don’t like to be negative and I would love to support the home team but I won’t do it blindly.
He just didn’t cut the mustard. I’ve listened to the recorded stuff since and it’s not much better. The video below isn’t too bad though. Rapping with a regional accent is good and all but the raps need to be good and it needs to flow. Flow traverses the regional divide. It would seem that the only person more surprised than me to see him on stage warming up for the GZA was Hector Bizerk himself.
…also that’s Big Taj doing beat box.
Half way through the show the GZA shouted ‘Liverpool in the House!!’ WHOOPS BIG MAN! He tried to recover with a shout out to all the major cities in the UK but failed to say Edinburgh…I also suspect the Genius though Scotland was a city in the UK or an annex of England.
